Our unique and stylish luxury 5 bedroom home with large infinity pool – Loulé Hills is currently under construction.
Loulé Hills is a design collaboration between the English owner, a Portuguese Architect and a French Architect. Inspired by Scandinavian minimalist design, with extensive use of concrete and glass. It welcomes lots of natural light into the interior space, takes advantage of Algarve’s year round sunshine and showcases the stunning south facing Atlantic Ocean views.
Loulé Hills is a unique, modern, minimalist, single storey home, in a tranquil setting, high on the hills above Loulé. The peaceful and scenic plot of 7300m², faces south with far reaching views of central Algarve and the Atlantic Ocean. The house offers 300m² of living accommodation, including five en-suite bedrooms and a twenty two metre long swimming pool.
The site was chosen for its exceptional location, which provides the convenience of living close to a major town, but with the benefit of a green and peaceful hillside location. The house can be reached from Loulé within just a couple of minutes from the town centre. Conveniently placed with easy access to; the fresh produce market, cafes, banks, post office, hair salons, restaurants, tennis club. In fact, everything one could ever need including the hospital.
The north section of the garden remains wild and untouched, carpeted with wild herbs, offering potential for future development to enjoy the elevated south facing view.
The south part of the garden has been relandscaped to create lots of potential use for parking, making the location ideal for events requiring multi vehicle access, and ease of access to the building for less able bodied visitors.
The main entrance to the house it at the rear of the property on the north side, to ensure protection from the sun when entering and exiting the property, and to ensure the south side of the house was used to it fullest potential to incorporate and favour the scenic Atlantic views in every room. In the evening, it’s magical to watch the small fishing boats heading out for the night from Quarteira harbour, their lights twinkling on the moonlit water.
The large infinity pool, enjoys sunshine from dawn until dusk all year round. Every aspect of the pool was carefully considered and designed to include three zones; one designed for submerged lounging or as a children’s shallow play and swim area – safely separated from deeper areas by stepping stones. The next zone is chest height for swimming and pool games, and a deeper zone for jumping and safe diving. The pool is visible and just a few steps away from three of the bedrooms and the living area, making it possible to view the whole pool and its occupants, from the majority of the house.
The design incorporates a very old stone ruin on the east side, which has been converted into two en-suite bedrooms, one of them benefitting from a large bathroom with walk in shower, suspended white rimless WC, two sinks, a bath plus a small private courtyard planted with lush green foliage, to create an outdoor open-air shower, for a magical bathing experience, under the sun or stars. All en-suites have; a walk-in shower, suspended white rimless WC with hidden tank, sink, mirror extractor fan and shattaf/hand held bidet.
The rear of the ruin, gives technical access to the three roofs via a staircase. The current owners felt there was adequate terrace and entertainment space at ground level, but the roof could be utilised as an additional terrace with installation of a safety barrier/glass balustrade around the perimeter. The house has pre-installation for solar power and air conditioning, to allow ease of installation of solar panels and AC for the future.
The laundry room sits conveniently between the bedrooms and has potential for creating substantial storage space for linen and towels. Space for two washing machines and/or tumbles dryers.
The main elevated section of the house has been designed to capture the breeze high on the hill through the south facing doors, and protect the occupants from the hot summer sun. A solid and deep reinforced concrete roof with substantial overhang for shade, provides protection from the sun whilst at its peak overhead in summer. In winter, the sun will deliver light and heat into the property through the extensive use of glass on the south elevation. The sun’s reflection from the swimming pool, designed to shimmer on the smooth concrete ceilings when the sun is low in the winter sky. Four metre high, smoothe concrete ceilings, create a feeling of space and grandeur to match the unrivalled panoramic open view down the valley, across Loulé and the Atlantic Ocean.
The main living area provides an open and inviting space for entertaining or for large families to enjoy time together. The kitchen area has been designed to include a large America style fridge freezer, two double ovens to cater for events, and a large 280cm x 125cm central island with sink, dishwasher and hob.
The dining area has been designed to create comfortable seating for 12 people around a table of 280cm x 125cm.
The lounge area can be configured in many ways to either simply take in the breath taking views, or to enjoy the heat and flames flickering from the log burner in winter. The very versatile space was designed for a minimalist style large multi sectional sofa, which could be reconfigured to suit the season or needs, but there is adequate space for several sofas, chairs, plus room for book cases, a desk, display cabinets and more.
Loulé Hills layout has been designed with flexibility in mind for the fifth en-suite bedroom on the west side. Originally designed as a gym, it can be utilised as a bedroom, a cosy lounge, office, or chill room – the perfect spot to play music, relax in a comfy chair and take in the view from the large terrace.
The house can be accessed via steps from the garage area or by car/pedestrian access via the driveway.
In the garage area underneath the main terrace, there is provision for; the pool pump/machine room, a secure storage area, parking for vehicles plus additional space with an open scenic view, to create an office, gym or studio area.
Chosen for the convenience, this project is within easy reach of; Faro airport which is approximately only 20 minutes away by car. Loulé town can be reached in only 2-3 minutes via the main road, or quiet country lanes. Ombria golf resort which is due to open in Spring 2023 is visible within just a couple of minutes drive, over the hill behind the property., Quinta do Lago and Atlantic beaches are within easy reach, just 15 minutes away.
